Ira " Cecil" Collier, 75, passed away on Easter morning, April 16, 2017. Private family services will be held at a later date with interment in Menard Cemetery in Menard, Texas. Arrangements are by Shaffer Funeral Home/Sherwood Way.
Cecil was born on December 8, 1941 in San Angelo, Texas to Ira Simon Collier and Opal Loraine Croft Collier, the oldest child of three children. He grew up and attended school in Menard, Texas where he graduated. During his high school years, he played football and basketball. He was outstanding in football and received an honorable mention at state for being an excellent linebacker. Cecil graduated from Menard High School in 1960. He moved to San Angelo and attended ASU where he received his bachelors in English Literature. Cecil taught at ASU for a short while and later went into petroleum industry. He will be remembered most by friends as the manager of Downtown Chevron.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Linda Leal.
Cecil is survived by his loving wife of twenty-five years, Joan Collier of San Angelo; his brother, Dexter "Craig" Collier and wife Denise of Georgetown; five step children and many friends. He will be greatly missed by those whose lives he touched.
