Carol Rush, 71, went to her heavenly home on March 9, 2017. A Celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church with Reverend Glenda Harbert officiating. Arrangements are by Shaffer Funeral Home/Sherwood Way.
Carol was born on October 7, 1945 to Grover and Ava Ramsey in Plainview, Texas. Her family moved to San Angelo where Carol grew up quite the tomboy. She ran around town with her brother throwing rocks in the river, catching lizards to see if they could swim, climbing trees and making mud pies. Carol loved all types of animals and she took up barrel racing during her high school years.
She graduated from Lake View High School and later attended Howard College, where she received her nursing degree. Carol spent many years nursing in the San Angelo area and her favorite job was caring for disabled children. Most recently, she was working with Kinder Hearts Home Health as a pediatric nurse. She cared deeply for these children and considered them part of her family.
Carol was always a very caring person. She was always willing to help anyone but she could also be opinionated and blunt at times. Carol was very adventurous, always wanting to go to new places and try new things.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Oleita Kline; and brother, James Ramsey.
Carol is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, Al Rush of San Angelo; son, Brent Dooley of San Angelo; daughter, Brooke Steele and husband Russ of Austin; grandchildren, Michael Dooley and fiancé Katlyn McWilliams, Hunter New, Laura Dooley, Ryland Steele; great grandson, Kayden Dooley; sisters, Roylene Dickson and husband Rickey and Sue Gomez and husband Louis; brother-in-law, Larry Kline; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
