Katherine Patterson
Hettie Katherine Bates Patterson, 87, passed from this life on Saturday, January 21, 2017. She was born on December 1, 1929, in Brenham, Texas to Robert Emery Bates and Maye Victoria Fausett. Katherine attended school in Corpus Christi and graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1947. On December 1, 1947, she married James Sterling Patterson. They celebrated 64 years together before his passing on April 14, 2012. She was the last of her generation.
The family moved to San Angelo in 1963 and have lived in the Grape Creek community since 1970.
Mom was the church secretary for Colorado and Jackson St. Church of Christ for many years. She helped with hospital visits, teaching Bible class, and worked on the church library. She also loved attending Ladies Bible Class on Wednesday mornings. Her hobbies included genealogy, quilting and crocheting.
Mom is survived by three children: Kitty Hasty, Jim Patterson, Scott Patterson, all of San Angelo. She was “Nana” to her grandsons: Ron Hasty (Wylie TX), Jason Hasty (Denver CO), and Darin (Crystal) Hasty of San Angelo, and great-grandchildren: Kara (Kevin) Douglas of Emory TX, Jaxon, Aiden, and Kynnley Mae Hasty of San Angelo.
Mom was a living example of a kind, warm, forgiving, sacrificing wife and mother. She was incapable of lying and did not tolerate one.
A celebration of Katherine’s life will be Saturday, January 28, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at Southgate Church of Christ. Paul Shero, Ed McCorkle and Eddie Howard will officiate. There will be a private burial in Grape Creek Cemetery at a later date.
Her family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Park Plaza Nursing Home and Hospice of San Angelo for the loving care they gave her in her final days.
